Kathmandu - Durbar Square - Taleju Temple (1564) - Lion Gate
The beautifull Taleju Temple is not accessible to Non-Hindus, only Hindus may visit the temple once a year (during the Dashain festival). The temple is dedicated to Taleju Bhawani, also known as Durga, who is an aspect of Shiva's consort Parvati. Taleju was the tutelary goddess of the Malla kings who ruled Kathmandu from the 14th to the 18th centuries. The current building dates to the mid-16th century, though the temple was founded in the 14th century.
